N.Z. TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
THIS MORNING'S PLAY. MEN'S SINGLES. (By Tleegraph.— Press Association.) Auckland, this day. The New Zealand tennis championships were resumed in dull, muggy weather. The courts are very heavy as the result of yesterday's downpour. The results are as follows: — Men's Singles (second round): P. H. Jones (Maori) beat Carter (Auckland), 6—o, 6—o, 6—o. Sturt (Auckland) beat Morrison (Auckland), 6—2, 7_5 ? 6_2. Lowry (Hawke's Bay) won his set, 6—2, B—6, 6—3. Entwhistle (Auckland) beat Melody (Wellington), 6—l, 2—6, 6—2, 6—3. A. \L. France. (Wellington) beat Macintosh (Auckland), 6—3, 6—2, 6—3. Watson (Otago) beat Howe (Wellington), 6—o, 6—l, 6—l. In the boys' singles Fisher (Auckland) beat Howe (Wellington), 5—6, 6—2, 7—5. Heavy rollers are necessary to prepare the courts and sawdust has been freely sprinkled on the base lines, which are very greasy.
