OPAL WORTH THOUSANDS.
DIGGERS' LUCKY FIND. . OUTLINE OF WOMAN'S FIGURE. A black opal of 225 carats, worth when cut anything from £3OOO to £SOOO, has been dug up at the Grawin field, 42 miles from Walgett, New South Wales. It is believed to be one of the most remarkable black opals yet found in the world. In the centre, surrounded by rays of indescribable tints, is !the distinct outline of a woman's figure. The lucky diggers are W. Kline and C. Stevens. They Avere working at a depth of 15ft when they came upon the stone, which is a perfect specimen. In its rough state it weighed just a pound. Cutting re- --; duced the weight, and in its state it measures 2£in by 2in, with a depth of about half an inch. During the cutting operations several chips were taken off. Five of these are perfect specimens and are calculated to be worth at least £350. The gem has been christened "The Light of the World." It has Been taken to Sydney by (the finders to get a market valuation.
