STEAM CARS.
The steam car still has adherents, and there are some who believe that when boilers are improved this type of vehicle will become a serious rival to the orthodox motor. A British firm, which has been largely concerned with the design and building of commercial steam waggons, has produced a very compact type of boiler which is -claimed to be suitable for private car use. Oil burners are used and full pressure attained from cold in four minutes. One rectangular boiler measuring only 16%in. by 14%in. by 23in., is rated at 20 h.p,, and has steam capacity for the continuous development of over 50 brake h.p. The steel boiler tubes are safe up to 80001bs. per square inch. With this type of boiler in view, the British Steam Car Association, an organisation of users of various makes of steam cars, continues to sponsor steam propulsion.
