ADRIFT WITHOUT HOPE.
BRIDAL TRAGEDY OF THE SEA. Arriving at Kalmar, South Sweden, a few weeks ago, the Finnish schooner Vesta brought Stoker Persson, who had been picked up in a drifting lifeboat in the Gulf of Finland. He was the only survivor of the Swedish steamer Aryggve, missing since August 14. He was not able to give a complete account of what obviously was a terrible sea tragedy. Of the Trygtgve’s original complement of crew and passengers, a total variously stated at 12 to 16, four men and two women sank with the steamer. The captain and tlie remainder of the crew, with two passengers, the lat ter a newly-married Stockholm couple named Lingreen, took to a lifeboat and drifted several days. Then t-ho Lingjreens jumped overboard, mentally affected. Gradually the others dis' appeared in the same way, leaving only the captain and Persson. When the captain died from tion, his body was pushed overboard by Persson, who alone survived to tell tlie tale.
