DANGEROUS MOTOR DRIVING.

The Motor Vehicles Bill which is now in operation, provides for sever© penalties for .those who have no regard for the safety of their fellow motorists. The enormous number of cars that passed through this district during the holidays serves to. bring into prominence "the necessity for proper precautions being taken by those driving motor cars. There were ninny instances of narrow escapes from collisions, and it. is known that several did occur, happily without, serious results, beyond the damaging of some cars. However careful some may be, they are always open to the risk of being run into by reckless drivers, especially at the many acute corners of the road's in this district. The enormous number of motor car accidents throughout the Dominion, which are on the increase every year, is a matter that calls for serious thought. Unless motorists are alive to the fact that not only do they place their own lives in danger by reckless driving, but jeopardise the lives of others, the toll of the road, will become heavier every year. It is not alone in furious driving does the danger lie, for "many neglect to observe the usual courtesies of the road by failing to dim their headlights when driving at night time and meeting another car. This has led to serious trouble on moire than one occasion. In this district the roads are narrow. There are many steep grades and embankments, and while so far there have been very few acciclentfs of a serious nature, the ever-increasing number of cars that belong to or pass through the district calls for proper care, even from the experienced driver.
