TAXI FARES.
BROUGHT TO FIXED SCALE. “There is the burning question of taxi fares,” said the Mayor at the Borough Council meeting last night. “Crs Peterson and Ferguson went through them and proiduced this scale. While they seemed to me to be high at first, it must be recognised that Or Ferguson has more experience in taxi work than any of us. If the councillors thought it wise, they could have a. copy and consider it. Cr Broadfoot (examining the rates): I think that the rate to my place at least is pretty high . Of course, I am speaking from my own point of view. Cr Ferguson: There are a number of new taxi men dn the stand now. and now’s the time to get in and make an arrangement with them. The old rate in the old days didn’t pay us .at all. He pointed out that T'e Kuiti could not be compared with other places, because of the large amount of hill wdrk. Cr Boddie said he thought there was not so much need for a fixed charge now as the prices had come down considerably. Cr O’Connell: I think we to have a fixed scale so it can be printed, and anyone engaging a car will know beforehand what they will have to pay. It was decided that each councillor be supplied with a copy of the proposed scale and that the matter be deferred till the next meeting.
