Owing to torrential rain in the province of Bergamo, Northern Italy, a dam on Lak© Godeno burst, and the escaped waters destroyed villages, swept away factories, bridges and railways. The loss of life is heavy. So far six hundred' are missing. (Received 9.20 a.m.) Rome, December 3. Details of the Bergamo disaster show that the damage and loss of life has been much greater than at first surmised. The village of Dezzo, two miles from the dam, was entirely destroyed, only seventeen being left out of 400 inhabitants. 137 BODIES RECOVERED. (Received 12.34 p.m.) Rome, December 3. According to messages from Bergamo, 137 bodies, all unrecognisable, have been recovered from the flood.
