Mr Desmond Fitzgerald, who is visiting Italy, told journalists at Rome, that de Valera would be kept m prison till Ireland was completely pacified. "We have not decided whether he should be interned or prosecuted," said Mr Fitzgerald. "He conducted insidious guerilla warfare against the Government, leading to the destruction of £50,000,000 worth of property. He is a criminal because he killed and destroyed pitilessly."

At a meeting of the Inter-Allied Federation of Demobilised Soldiers there were strong protests at a campaign having, a tendency to disunite Britain, France and Belgium. The hope was expressed tha.t these three countries would compel Germany to pay reparations in the interests of victims of the war.
