ITALY AND GREECE.

THE ISSUES STILL OBSCURE

FRANCE UNDECIDED

London, September 5

The critical situation in Europe, caused by the seizure of Corfu by Italy, is still fraught with grave possibilities. France is undecided, but many of the smaller nations, including Belgium, uphold Britain in the contention that the matter should be dealt with by the League of Nations. Italy has signified her intention of withdrawing from the League rather than let the League intervene, and Signor Mussolini has stated that the Italian forces will remain in Corfu indefinitely unless Greece yields. An American traveller states that Italy had rehearsed the occupation of Corfu a month before the Jamina murders.

There are grave possibilities of another Balkan war if Italy continues .to occupy Corfu. Yugo-Slavia newspapers declare that Yugo-Slavia will support Greece, while certain sections in Turkey are urging Kemal Pasha to take the opportunity of seizing Western Thrace.
