PIO PIO NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.)

VALEDICTORY

A very happy gathering took place at the residence of Mr O. E. List at Pio Pio, when the staff of the post office and a number of friends of Miss E. G. Butcher spent a most enjoyable evening in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Butcher, who, to the great regret of the staff and the public generally, is resigning from the postal service, which she joined in Pio Pio during 1914, and where, with the.exception of a temporary absence on transfer to Hamilton, she has spent the whole of her time. The evening was occupied with ''five hundred" and euchre.

•Mr List, on behalf of the staff, spoke most feelingly at the loss they would experience in Miss Butcher's departure, and not they alone, but the public in general, with whom she was a, universal favourite, and he wished her every joy and happiness in her marriage. Mr List then presented Miss Butcher with an afternoon tea set, the gift of the staff. TENNIS CLUB. The tennis club held a meeting on Thursday evening, when it was decided, inter alia, to hold the annual general meeting at an early date, due notice of which will be given members through the Press. The club has experienced hard luck as regards the state of the courts, but as they will very shortly be in good playing condition, a record season is confidently anticipated. MASONIC SOCIAL. The Town Hall presented an animated appearance on Friday evening when the Pio Pio Freemasons held their animal social, which- was largely attended by visitors from all parts.
