A POCKET HERCULES.
KEATOS THE GREEK. A regular little pocket Hercules is Con Keatos, a Greek wrestler, who is at present in Sydney, and is being matched against George White for the light-weight wrestling championship of Victoria. Writing in an Australian exchange, a special correspondent states: When he stripped to the waist I was astonished at his extraordinary development. He has been under the wing of Billy Meeslie for some time, and I have heard that he can give anyone within a stone of his weight a lively “go.” Keatos was bom on a vineyard outside historic Athens. He comes, therefore, from a city that knew the science of wrestling before it was known that the Britons wore skins and chased one another with stone tomahawks. Civilisation is indebted to the Greeks for many things, including all branches of culture, a dead language, the Grecian bend, oysters, and the hammerlock. They also produced some celebrated cooks about 2000 years ago, and it is said that the Romans, who did _ not understand Pyrex cooking, gained many fine dishes through filching their recipes. Hie Greeks to-day have stuck to cooking and wrestling, among other things. Wherever you find Greeks, you will also find restaurants. The Greeks take to cooking for a livelihood and wrestling for a recreation. Con Keatos is no exception to the rule. He is a clief in a Flinders Street restaurant.
Keatos is really a very fine type of young Greek. His face is built on clean and classical lines, and is illum--1 mated by a pair of dark, straightforward eyes that take on the intensity of an eagle when he means business. I have not seen him wrestle, but I have in mind the type of wrestler he will be. I imagine he will not be found wanting. He is a silent type, and does not care to speak about himself. I gleaned with some difficulty that he had taken up boxing when he came out to Australia some years ago. Wrestling, however, is his forte, and he certainly looks ,the part. How he will get on with George White is bard to say. It must be remembered that White is the more experienced, and a very good wrestler as well. Still, Keatos comes with good credentials from the Meeske school, and if he has absorbed just half of what Champion Billy can teach him, he will give a good account of himself.
