WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. Tiie Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report under date August 27th:— Beef.—The yardings lately have been somewhat better, due no doubt to the fact that swede crops have practically disappeared. Values still continue to • advance; and it is impossible to gauge how far this might yet extend. It is certain that butchers are inclined to view the outlook with some little concern. ~ . Mutton.—There is a continued' scarcity of mutton and values are rapidly rising. A pen of really well-finished ,sheep is becoming a rare sight. Store Cattle.—The advance in the value of beef has to a considerable extent been reflected on store cattle, and values have firmed. A strong inquiry exists for this class, but with little prospect of being satisfied. There is also a good inquiry for empty cows, and fortunately the markets are fairly flushed. Young steers are the scarcest product in the live stock category, whilst.there is a very apparent surplus of heifers, the demand for which is extremely weak. Store Sheep.—The markets are very bare, and private business is far from extensive. Ewes, with lambs at foot, may shortly be looked for, and will undoubtedly be popularly received. Values in all branches ~are very firm and advancing.

Dairy Cattle.—The clearing sales have practically concluded for the season. Business.now is chiefly with that section that might be termed “Flitters.” viz. cows which,' having failed to give satisfaction in their last abode, are seeking a fresh pasture -where their shortcomings may not be observed. Good dairy heifers have advanced, and in all markets are briskly competed for.

Pigs.—There has been a decline in the values of fat pigs, due no doubt to the better yardings. Store pigs still meet with strong competition; indeed, values in this branch, seem to have exceeded the limits that a clear appreciation of the outlook recommends.

Horses.—A good inquiry exists for all good draught animals, and indication points to a good season. We quote as follows: Bullocks, heavy, prime £lO 15s to £l2 15s, medium £9 to £lO 10s; cows, heavy, young £8 to £lO, medium £5 5s to £7, forward £3 10s to £4 ss; steers, 3£ to 4£ years, forward £4 15s to £6, stores £4 to £4 10s; cows, stores, £1 12s Gd to £2 7s 6d; steers, 3-year, best £3 15s to £4 15s ; heifers, rising 2-year, r.w.b., Jersey £lO Is to £ls, do, rising 3-year, r.iv.b., Shorthorn £6 to £S, do Holstein £7 10s to £9; empty heifers, 2-year, best, Shorthorn £2 5s to £3, do medium £i 15s to £2 2s 6d; steers, 2-year, best, Shorthorn £3 5s to £3 15s, do medium £2 10s to £3; yearlings, heifers, best, Shorthorn £1 15s to £2 ss; do Holstein £2 5s to £3; do Jersey cross £3 10s to £5; do, steers, best £1 15s to £2 10s; do medium £1 10s to £1 12s Gd; do weedy £1 to £1 ss.
