MINISTER INTERVIEWED.

BY COUNTY DEPUTATION. Interviewed in connection with the recent visit of county councillors to Wellington for the purpose of interviewing the Minister of Public Works on matters connected with the administration of the county, Mr G. Brown, county clerk, informed a Chronicle representative yesterday that the deputation, generally speaking, had been fairly successful. "The principal matters dealt with," said Mr Brown, "were the completion of the Hiwi Road and the subsidising of the work on the Takiri and Mangapohue Roads. In regard to the Hiwi Road, the Minister was entirely in sympathy with the proposal put forth, and has promised to give the matter his very earnest attention. In regard to the other two roads mentioned, I think there is every chance of the Government granting the £ for £ subsidy asked for. The work on the Mangapohue Road, of course, is being carried out in conjunction with the Kawhia County. In regard to the metalling of a portion of the road leading into the Tangitu and Mokauiti districts, the Minister said it was a big undertaking, and he would have to consult his departmental officers." A number of other matters concerning the council's policy in the re-building of bridges, etc., were also discussed, a jeport on which will be submitted at the next meeting of the county council.
