TE KUITI HOSPITAL.

SITE QUESTION. A DIFFICULTY. Writing to tbe Minister for Agriculture, the clerk of the Waitomo County Council referred to the question of s suitable site for the Te Kuiti Hospital previously discussed with the Minister. Tbe site discussed was a piece of land owned by the Department and occupied by one of the 6eld inspectors, and it bad long been considered ideal for the porpoae. The council asked the Department to exchange it for a site given by tbe natives when the town was laid off, or purcbasa it. That was not entertained. Tbe council trusted the Minister would be able to give favourable consideration to tbe request.

In reply, the Minister said he had ascertained that the property provided accommodation wbicb was absolutely necessary for the local officers of the Department, and was in no WB7 in excels of present requirements, and that a smaller area would not suffice. He regretted, therefore, that be could not agree to tbe proposed exchange.

HOSPITAL BOARD. MR BODDIE'S PROPOSAL. A letter was received from Mr Jas. Boddie, stating that at the last meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board held on Apr»l 15th, be brought forward the matter of the proposed hospital for Te Kuiti, but as several members of the board were absent, he did not force it to a decision, hot tabled notice of motion for next meeting. Another reason for delay was that one must be ready to state definitely tbs nature of the building proposed, and these details he asked for. Tbe question of site would bave an important bearing on the question, and be suggested a meeting of representatives of the local bodies concerned to give a lead. Residents might meet also, as tbe question of raising £IOOO would no doubt be materially assisted if tbey bad the sympathy of the people.
