MARAKOPA.

Own Correspondent Grass is .plentiful everywhere, and bll stock are looking exceedingly well. Several settlers in this district have taken advantage of the low prices of cattle to stock up. The extraordinary carrying capacity of the river fiats of the Kiritehers and Marakopa valleys has increased of iate years, as the big timber has rotted, been lagged up and burnt off.

A much needed improvement is just approaching completion, namely, the north approach to the Marakopa bridge. This big filling will be a boon to the carriers of the district. Three ferro-concrete bridges in the Kiritehere valley are under course of erection; these are replacing the old timber structures.

Two large mobs of fat cattle have been travelled by road to the Waitßra works during the lest month, the majority of the cattle coming from t'ae properties of Messrs Alf. Haylock. William Jones, the Marakopa Milling Company, and others. The cattle were a superb lot, and elicited much admiration They were undoubtedly a good advertisement for tbe district.

The Marakopa Dairy Company haß just closed down for the season. A large increase in supply will occur next sasson, as there will be. several new suppliers, and three of tha old suppliers are installing machines and doubling their herds. The company's old-time secretary has returned home after three and a-half years' service, and has been warmly welcomed. Mr Rose also served throughout the whole of the Boer War.

Several returned soldiers, Messrs Dan Wouldes, Ed Hally, Lance Willison, Win. Bowen. Len and Percy Buckeridge, have come back during the last month, and received 'welcomes home.

Mr Jss. B Young, of Messrs Young and Tsmmadge, the wellknown Te Kuiti firm, has been in Marakopa on a business He was much impressed with ths splendid pasture everywhere in the Marakopi 2nd Kiritchere.
