FARMERS' UNION.

TE KUIfl BRANCH. FARMERS AND POLITICS. The annual meeting ntf tbe Te Kttiti branch of the N. Z Farmers" Union held on Saturday was presided over by Mr F. fredafe. The attendance was very targe. • Mr Iredale was re-elected president and chosen as delegate to the subprovtncial executive meetings for the ensuing year.

Mr. JL W. Cochrane was appointed secretary in succession to Mr Bloomfield.

A discussion took place regarding the establishment of a farmers'' political party. Mr Iredale supported the proposal, but Messrs H. Rothery, K. A. Gillanders, and A. Julian spoke against it.

'* If at alt possible/' said Mr Julian, *we should go stow in the matter of politics. It is rather dangerous to instruct a delegate to vote for something we know nothing about." Mr Rothery was of opinion that if a political party were formed a branch with between Sao and 900 members would not have sufficient weight to make its influence felt. It would be better for the farmers to support a candidate at the elections who had their interests at heart. The meeting decided to await the result of the conference on the question recently held tn Auckland, when the matter wilt be further considered.
