TE KUITI TEMPORARY HOSPITAL
The Editor
Sir, —Allow me through the columns of your paper to draw the attention of the public to what I consider a deplorable thing to the people of Te Kuiti for all time. I refer to the exploiting that has been done \<s connection with the cost of running the Temporary Hospital. To my mind—and I must say here, 1 am terribly disappointed as regards the attitude of some of the Te Kuiti people—the great exploiters during the present war can well rest with an easy conscience whpn they learn how soma of the Te Kuiti people are attempting to exploit their fellowmen at a time when it was a question of life and death to the community. "For the sake of humanity" to some was only a pass word. No words of praise are* sufficient to tbose who provided food, others who prepared it; also the matron who deserves the greatest payment of all, have refused, the latter saying, "I am doing this purely for the people of Te Kuiti." What a humane spirit. Those that assisted her as a nursing staff are amongst the very best of us. Te Kuiti has always been held up as a very progressive, liberal and hospitable town. . Are we going to allow a stigma to be cast against our town? Surely not. I would suggest that his Worship th 9 Mayor call a public meeting of citizens and read the details of some of the accounts and %sk for a vote of the public present as to whether or not the accounts should be forwarded to the authorities for payment—l bid, etc., P. MORA, Acting-Secretary Te Kuiti Temporary Hospital.
