LABOUR DAY DEMONSTRATION.
COMMITTEE MEETING Last evening at the Fire Brigade rooms the committee of the above met to further consider arrangements for the sports procession and dance to be held on Labour Day, 22nd inst. The committee decided to add a window-dressing competition to the programme and arranged that the public be the judges by voting, the tickets to be 3d each, and the competition to close at 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 20tb. There will be no entry fee, but the entries for the competition must be in the hands of the secretary before 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 13th. The following gentlemen were appointed to the position for the sports:—Starter, Mr H. Rothery; handicappers, Messrs Lnsk and H. Wilson; judges, Messrs H. Vause, John Hetet, and G. Elliott; timekeepers fire brigade events, Messrs Fenton and Tarsone; judges for procession, Messrs Richmond Davies and J. Smith, with his Worship the Mayor as arbitrator. The suggestion made to the committee that part of the profits of the day be handed over to the proposed Te Kuiti Hospital Fund was considered at length and it was eventially decided that in view of the closs proximity of Labour Day it would not be in the interests of the Hospital Fund to fall in with the suggestion, but it was unanimously decided that the committee aa now constituted be kept together and prepare a comprehensive scheme, which will embrace the whole of the back districts, for a great gala day, the whole of the proceeds to be devoted to the hospital Fund. As this proposal must naturally require organising of the minutest description so as to secure a success for the fund, it will probably eventuate at Easter time. The following entries have so far been received for the fire brigade events: —Taumarunui, Te Awamutu, Devonport and Te Kuiti.
