LONDON WOOL SALES. London, Wednesday. At the wool sales to-day there was a Btrong competition for all descriptions, with an upward- tendency for merinos. A keen American and Continental demand is repotted. There were 9665 bales on offer, including 7597 from New Zealand The attendance was good and competitions keeD. Yorkshire men were the principal operatois, Americana giving fair support. Medium lower crossbreds were practicallv unchanged from the March closing rates. Merinos . and fine crossbfeds showed a slight upward tendency with ccasionally a 5 per cent, advance.

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable from London:—^"The, sales have opened with strong competition and large attendances of buyers. Total net quantity of New Zealand available 130,000 bales. The market is strong for all kinds of wool; prices are unchanged." Th 9 New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received" the following cablegram from'their London office under date April 28th:—"Wool sale: Thera was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home, Continental and American buyers being active, and pricss, as compared with the close for preceding aeries, ruled par to 5 per cent, hibger for merino and finer croßEbred; other market firm. The opening catalogues were fairly representative."
