A WOMAN'S DEATH.
* RESULT OP DRUNKEN SPREE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, This Day. At the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, Daniel Warren, aliaß Munroe, alias Wilson, pleaded not guilty to a charge of the manslaughter of Hazel Stanley; also to charges of causing grievous bodily barm with intent, and causing grievous bodily harm.
The evidence disclosed that while accused and the woman Were driving in a gig from Hawera to Sratford, they had a drunken row in the course of which accused severely knocked the woman about. She was admitted to the Stratford Hospital suffering from delirium tremens, which the medical evidence stated was brought on by her injuries. She died eighteen days after.
Accused, who had a number of previous convictions against him, ranging from vagrancy to theft, waß found guilty on the third count, and sentenced to three years* hard labour and reformative treatment for a maximum of ten years.
