HONIKIWI.
Own CorreHpondent. The annual school picnic, which took place aa usual on New Year'B Day, was a tremendous success, and grati tude is due to the commitee who made the arrangements and worked untiringly throughout the dav in the interests of all. An unprecedented number of people from far and near wore enticed by the glorious sunshine U< be present. The Qtorohangn Town Band attended, aa alao did the Drum and Fife Band under the Rev. Harvey, and their bright music added greatly to the day's enjoyment. A generous luncheon was partaken of, and then the afternoon was devoted to sports, there being a very extensive and varied programme, giving all "present an opportunity of carrying off one or more of the nice prizes provided. The school prizes for the year just ended were also presented during the course of the afternoon. In the evening a dance took place in Mr Budden'B barn, kindly lent by him for the occasion, the school, the scene of many former festivities, being too small to accommodate the growing population of the district. A large number of people were present, and dancing was kept up i till the early morning hours, when all dispersed having spent a most enjoyable day, and already looking forward to the next picnic.
