King Country Chronicle Wednesday, January 7, 1914 AN URGENT NECESSITY.
Attention haa been drawn to an urgent necessity at the Te Kuiti railway station in the shape of a water trough for stock. It is stated that during the sweltering weather recently experienced some cattle were left in the yards for days and must have suffered dreadfully through lack of water. Fortunately sunh occurrences ara not frequent, but in a centre where such a large district is served by the railway station there are times when outback consignees do not receive advice concerning stock shipments in time to take delivery upon arrival, and to meet such occasions some provision is necessary in order to prevent the animals suffering undue hardship. It is to be hoped the attention of the authorities will be directed to the matter with a view to having the necejsary convenience provided. Any question of responsibility on the part of the Department should not be allowed to atand in the way of carrying out such a necessary work, and if the railway authorities cannot see their way to make the necessary provision, it is to be hoped the publie will not allow the matter to rest.
