TE RAUAMOA.

Own Correspondent. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr and Mrs Randall in their recent double bereavement. A meeting ofthe hall committee was held on Mondav last. Present—Measrß J. Randall (chairman), Honore (secretary), Douglas and Hogarth. As seven out of the eight owners were now residing in the district it was resolved that the hall be controlled by its owners. Thus the executive committeee is extended to seven instead of five. It was resolved that tenders be called for sale of loose timber and corrugated iron on hand. Some discussion took place in the matter of revenue. The treasurer (Mr Douglas) announced that nearly all the settlers of the district had contributed £l, the latest donation being from Mr A. Everess. As the actual earnings of the hall had been somewhat below what was expected a member present suggested the building should not be free for certain gatherings. The secretary pointed out that it had been reßolved at a public meeting of the owners that the hall be free for "charitable, religious and children's functions, and public meetings for the dicuession of local public matters," (from the minute book), that the public had on th 9 good faith of the owners made contributions of £1 and over, and that they (the hall committee) could not now break faith with the public in such a manner. The donors could demand the refund of their money. The following accounts were passed for payment: Dally £4 Is 6d, Champtaloup and Edmiston ss, S. Ormsby £3, Insurance account (J. Randall) £1 2s 6d. Mr Honore tendered his resignation as secretary. —Resolved that this matter be held over till next meeting. f The school Committee intend ploughing for agricultural purposes a portion of the grounds. The aettlerß who have teams have generously offered to haul off logs and plough, etc., free of charge. It is hoped experiments carried out by teacher fill prove remunerative as well as educative. It is suggested two or three acres of root crops be grown on a weed infested area. The report of the Education Board Inspector of Schools is to hand. Exception has been taken to the grounds being used for other than school purposes. It is only fair to the present committee, which is presided over by Mr J. G. Parkinson, to make known that this report is the outcome of the sina of previous committees and School Commissioners, and the thoughtlessness of neighbours in allowing their pigs to trespass on the school grounds.
