MOUNTED MEN IN CAMP Over one thousand mounted farmers bad reached the camp at Otahubu by daybreak on Thursday morning, and a few minutes aftpr five an advance party of four hundred rode out four abreast on their way to Auckland. They took the Great South Road, paßsed through Remuera and Newmarket, and at 7 a.m. entered the Outer Domain from the Parnell end. Four rows of tents were pitched—fourteen in each row —and the four hundred horses were tethered in lines. Provisiorß had been carted to the camp overnight by members of the Permanent Artillery force, but owing to unforseen difficulty in the matter of carting there was a shortage of horse fodder during the forenoon. At midday, however, Bome waggons belonging to leading city firms arrived with fodder. SPECIAL CONSTABLES ATTACKED. An exciting incident was witnessed at EDSom on Thursday morning as a company of 30 mounted specials were proceedings from the Otahuhu encampment to the Outer Domain. They had been unable to start on their ride when the majoirty of the 400 set out, and consequently were travelling in lighter formation. When the company was in the vicinity of the Diocesan College a number of labourers engaged on the drainage works vigorously stoned them, the fusillade lasting for a few minutes. Several of the specials were struck with large sized road metal, and when they had got clear of the unexpected attack many of the number showed a distinct disposition to return with swinging batons. In reply, workmen picked up their picks and shovels with invitaions to "Come on," and with outspoken opinions concerning the action of the far mers in coming to the city, but the captain of the company called upon his men to advance, and they continued towards the city. Residents who witnessed the onlsaught state that the aspeet was decidedly ugly.
