During the year ended March 31st, 1912, the people of New Zealand consumed 863,797 gallons of spirits, smoked 2,406,097 pounds of tobacco, drank 153,611 gallons of wine, 296,632 gallons of ale and beer 78,680,283 pounds of tea, 611,499 pounds of coffee), cocoa and chicory, and 135,239,888 pounds of sugar.
