Rotorua County Council has issued notice of the motion to the membe nof the council on the subject of native land, as follows "That this council, having nottd the intention to promote legislation during the pr nwaent session dealing withthe settlen writ and rating of native-owned land, would beg respect fully to submit for- the Government's consideration the following suggestionsß for the irr.pron ement of the present conditions :-- "That all native lands, whether sub-divided or not. should be liable for local rating; that where owners are not known or titla s individualmed. the rates shouldi bo a. charge against the land, and in anjr action for the recovery of rates in judgment, Bhould be enter ced by the local body against the tar* I in the same manner as a judQie*-* t may be enforced against land on ned by Europeans, as provided fu» by the Rating Act, 1908; that it st* >uld be mandatory on Maori land ra ards to forward to the Valuation Derja .rtment reports of all transactions it i nativc-o'vned lands under their emit vol; that roads on native-owned lr ,ndfc , before boin-j proclaimed as auch,, eh ould be subject to the appro ?al of the local bodies, who will subsequently have the control and main tenancc ol them; that when nativt > lands are leased or purchar*d by private persons, or the Crown, a pel ventage of the rent or puM-hase mone: v should be retained by tb.
