AMUSEMENTS.
EMPRESS THEATRE. "The Dawning."—Ellen Mason, a young girl, receives attentions from two suitors. She gives her heart to Victor, and all goes well until he tells he must go away. She dismisses him in anger and disappointment. She thep accepts Henry, and their married life turns out unhappy. They go to Paris where Victor is studying. He has pursued his studies With success. Later Ellen and her husband visit him at his studio. He receives Ellen with much of : his old devotion. Henry watches with misgivings the attitude of the former lovers. Ellen poses for her portrait, Victor loses his self-control, and attempt!* to embrace her. She now realises the folly of her indiscretion, . and cries for assistance. In her distraction she tells Henry and be insults Victor by Btriking him. A duel ensueß. Ellen's happinesß is increased when she learns that Victor is not seriously hurt and she now realises that she lovea the man she has so long treated with indifference.
TERRITORIAL DANCE.
The first of a series of dances in aid of a gymnasium for the Territorials was held on, June 25th. There was a good attendance, the hall being beautifully decorated with palms, while the floor and music were perfect. An innovation in the way £of a 'moonlight dance" was greatly enjoyed by the dancers. Mr Sheehan made a most efficient M.C. The % dance reflected grest credit upon Sergt. - Major Mooney and bis helpers. While the dance was a financial success, the support of the public in the direc tion of further financial assistance for the gymnasium will be appro* ciated.
