King Country Chronicle Saturday, May 10th, 1913. TE KUITI DOMAIN.

A matter of considerable importance to the town, which has been allowed to remain in the catalogue of unconsidered duties for a somewhat lengthy period is the providing of a suitable recreation ground. The nearest approach to serious consideration which was ever accorded the subject was when the committee of the Sports Protection League approached the Borough Council with a view to definite action. The proposal at that time was to dispose of the present unsuitable ground and with the proceeds procure a ground which would Buit the requirements of the people. In effect the proposition meant the exchanging of a small and unsuitable domain for a larger and more suitable area in an equally good position. The only objection urged against the proposal waß to the effect that as the domain adjoined the school ground it should be kept in the interests of the school children. This argument is tantamount to suggesting that as the domain adjoins the school ground it should be presented |to the Education Department, and the people Bhould either do without a suitable recreation ground or purchase one. Everything considered it appears to be rather a valuable gift when it is remembered that a much more spacious and suitable ground could be had in exchange. The subject is at least worthy of the profound consideration of our City Fathers, and it is to be hoped definite action in the matter will be taken at no distant date. For some time past the council has been engaged with matters of more immediate moment, but now that provision has been made for filling the most pressing needs of the town the subject under review, which is so inseparably associated with modern ideas of town planning, is undoubtedly deserving of serious consideration. The public are intimately concerned in the matter not only in the present, but as affecting the best interests of future generations of Te Kuitians. It is to be hoped the public will be afforded an opportunity of announcing their wishes on the question.
