THE FISHING SEASON.

ALTERATION ADVOCATED. OCTOBER TO APRIL. At the Acclimatisation Conference last night, Mr Hargreaves (Honikiwi) drew attention to the way in which the fishing season operated in this district, and advocated an alteration. He said thepresent half-yearly license, which dated from February >lst, and lasted until the end of May, was no use to the busy man who was closely occupied until Christmas on his farm. The month of January was usually a period the local angler could take advantage of, whereas later on he had little opportunity. The result was that many did not take out licenses, and he was sure a considerable revenue was lost in consequencp. He moved that it be recommended that the Auckland Society adopt as the fishing season the period from October Ist till April 30th, and that half-year-ly licenses date from January Ist instead of from February as at present. The chairman seconded the proposal. He said in addition to Mr Hargreaves' reasons there was the fact that all the other societies adopted October to April as the fishing season, and he was sure the society lost considerable revenue.

Mr Moorhouse supported the motion, but suggested that the half-yearly license should commence on December 20th. The motion was carried.
