WHARF LABOURERS DEMANDS.

I; Instead of the Cbrinthic departing for New Zealand on Thursday morning, she was deTayed till three in the afternoon owing to trouble with the Vharf Labourers' Union for following the usual custom of unloading cemant three casks at a time. The secretary of the union objected on the grounds that the, load was too heavy and the stevedore engaged an extra man. The union demanded that only two casks should be hoisted together, and threatened to strike unless the extra men were kept on. The stevedore perforce had to concede the demands.
