HONIKIWI.

Own Correspondent. Fanners are now very busy with their harvesting and given fine weather this should soon ba completed. Shearing operations are about over for the season, and a good quantity of the wool has been carted out. The road ia now in good order, and during the spell of fine weather the contractors have been busy finishing their works started last year. Mr Rothery, at the Honikiwi end, will most likely finish at the end of the week. The Moakurarau river running through the district owing to the splendid stocking of the Acclimatisation Society, is now full of fine trout. Recently a party of two visiting anglers got in the river on Mr Culverhoupe's property and worked upwards to Mr Budden's. They had splendid luck, their total for the day being 20 fish, averaging 31bs. At one holn after they had gone about half a mile up stream two fine fish —7§lbs and 61bs respectively—were landed. Both fish were in splendid condition. Anglers should take notice of this river, as it promises to be a very fine trout stream.

The annual school picnic will be held down the Turitea on New Year's Day. An energetic committee, with Mr Budden as chairman and Mr Potter as secretary and treasurer, has been appointed. Subscriptions are coming in freely, and up to the present about £7 has been collected. The committee extend a hearty welcome to all visitors, and they hope now that the road is in good order to see a good number from Otorohanga.

The school broke up for the Christmas holidays on Thursday of last week, after a very successful school year. The inspector's report was again very satisfactory in all respects. The following are the prize-winners for the year: Attendance —Linda Carter 1, Marjorie Budden 2, Ethel Carter 3;the first two will also receive first-class attendance certificates from the boad, the third girl will receive a second-class certificate. Conduct — Tame Morehu Ist boy, Ida Carter Ist girl. Writing—Teri Kohi 1, Kahu Kohi 2. Drawing —Ida Carter 1, Jessie West and Marjorie Budden equal 2. Composition —Jessie West 1, Constance Hall 2. Sewing—Marjorie Budden and Linda Carter equal 1. Arithmetic —Jessie West 1, Constance Hall 2. All the prize-winners will receive a good book to be presented at the picnic on New Year's Day. The attendance for the year has been very satisfactory, the average just reaching 16.4. This will put the school up a grade from the beginning of, January next. Mr J. F.
