OTOROHANGA.

DAIRYING ACTIVITY Own Correspondent.

With the unseasonable weather and the advent of spuing the roads are getting more and more broken up. The increase of traffic is very noticeable, milk carts coming in from all directionss to the local factory, and cream carts arriving regularly from several of the outer settlements. Arrangements have been entered into to cart the Te Rauamoa cream in tothe Otoro banga station and the first supply is expected very shortly. These cream carts not only bring in cream from several suppliers, but the drivers also do numerous smaller commissions and so save the suppliers having to come to the township to get the goods themselves. The predictions of some of the far seeing people are rapidly coming true and the amount of cream departing from this station tends to show that they were not over-estimat-ing when they said that Otorohanga was going to be a great dairying district. When one looks around and sees the very small area that is in actual cultivation, and sees the amount of cream produced, it does not require a great mental effort to estimate what the district will produce in a few years time. BUILDING PROGRESS.

Judging from the number of buildings now in course of erection, and the ones spoken of, the building trade is going to be fairly brisk during the spring and summer months. Mr McHardy was the successful tenderer for the erection of two shops, and he has already commenced work. Mr Fullerton has secured the Public Works contract fur the new police station, and for the courthouse. The contractor for the Te Raumauku school had the misfortune to have the shelter shed blown completely over and down a hill just as the shed was almost finished. It is finished now. The Town Council are spending the balance of the loan money in doing up the minor streets by day labour, and are making a good showing. Numbers of town sections have been changing hands since the last sale, and quite a number of farms have found fresh ownera lately. A very successful euchre drive was held the other evening and in spite of averywet night a large number turned up. The proceeds are to be devoted to the Roman Catholic building fund. Mrs R. F. Gregg and Miss Johnson won the first and second ladies' prizes and Mr McGovern and Mr Isaac won the gent's, prizes.
