' Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:— , , . .. We held cur combined sale in the Pio Pio saleyard3 on the 23rd inat. There was a good yarding of 500 head of cattle of which they submitted 150 to a large attendance, and prices were very satisfactory. The whole yarding was cleared, the following prices being realised: —Forward bullocks £7 7s, store do. £5 10s, empty cows £3 17s, 2 year steers £3 18s, yearlings to 18 months steers £2 10s to £3, shorn wether hoggets 12s 4d. We heid our usual weekly fat stock sale at Westfield on 23rd inst. We quote: Beef. —A large yarding. Prices were much lower than last week a drop of 2s to 3s per lOObls ruling right through the sale. Choice pens of ox sold up to 22s Gd per lOOlbs, ordinary prime ox at 21s 6d, cow and heifer beef 19s to 21s. Mutton —An average yarding. Prices were on a par with last sale, heavy shorn wethers making up to 19s, ordinary shorn wethers medium weight and good quality at 15s to 17s, light and unfinished at 13s to 14s Gd, heavy shorn ewes 15s to ISs, medium weights 13s to 14s 6d, light 6d and 12s 6d. Lamb—A large yarding, heavy selling at up to 17s, good lis to 15s, light Ss to 103 6d. Pork—An average yarding, prices ruling very low. There was very little demand. Heavy porkers sold at equal to 2.\ per lb, and light porkers at equal to 3d per lb.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Cambridge, on Monday, -Ist inst., we yarded 14S head of iat cattle, 600 stores, also shesp and pigs Beef sold at improved prices, and all stores sold readiiy at late rates. Fat steerds made from £7 12s 6d to £9 ss, fat cows, good £6 10s to £t 7s, others £5 2s 6d to £6, cows in fresh condition £3 10s to £4 10s, 3i year steers in forward condition £6 16s to £<_ los, 24 to 3 year steers £4 12s to £5 ss, 15 months steers £2 19s to £3 3s, heifers, same age £2 14s 6d to £2 16s, 2 year empty heifers £4 to £4 los, calves 245, "dairy cows up to £9 ss, springing heifers £5 7s 6d to £6 J ss, ewes and lambs 8s 3d each, fat ewes 15s, weaner pigs lis to los, slips 16s to 18s 6d, porkers 28s. At Ohaupo on 22nd inst. we yarded 1230 head of cattle. There was only a moderate demand, and a number of pens of steers of all ages failed to reach reserves. Grown steers in forward condition made £7 Bs, 3 year steers £5 12s 6d, 2 year steers £4 7s 6d, 1G months steers £3 10s to £3 14s, 12 to 15 months steers £2 14s to £3, store cows £2 15s to £3 10s, 2 year empty heifers £3 16s to £4 10s, 18 months to 2 year heifers £3 7s to £3 13s, 12 to 15 months heifers £2 13s to £2 18s, fat cowk £4 17s to £5 12s, young bulls £3 10s to £4 15s.

AUCKLAND WOOL SALES. There was a record "bench" at the first wool sales of the season, which began at the Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday morning. Nearly 7000 bales were catalogued and nearly 1000 bales were not included through being forwarded too late. Messrs Binney and Sons opened the sale with 964 bales. The top price secured was a shilling for a choice lot of three-quarter-bred merino, sent in by Mr W. Duder, of Maraetai; and other good prices realised were Had for some Shropshire wool from Mr James Kennedy, Waiheke, and another lot of fine crossbred from Mr Couldrev, of Maraetai; lid for an entry of Southdown wool from the Ruakura Experimental Farm; 10i<J for a line of Romney from the Bickerstaffe Estate; lOd for a lot of crossbred wool grown by Snelling Bros., of Maungaturoto. and 9d for prices catalogued by Carey Bros, and O'Brien Bros., both of Waiheke, The general run of dingv and heavy crossbreds was from 7£d to BJd, medium crossbreds from Bid to 94d, wtih bellies and pieces quite equal to last year s

Loan and Mercantile Agency Company offered 2407 bales, of which practically the whole was sold under the hammer. The range of prices was as follows:— Fine halfbred and merino 9Jd to llid, fine crossbred 9d tu Hid' Snrophshire 9d to IOJd, medium crossbred 8d to 93,(5, Lincoln and coarse crossbred 7Jd to Sfd, inferior and log-stained 7jd to Bd. Messrs Alfred Buckiand and Sons offered 1890 bale?, and quitted nearly the lot under the_ hammer. Some lots were passed in at a shliling, and some of them higher prices realised were:--W. H. Allen, halfbred fine lid, and lOd for some crossbred; Helvetia Ostrich Farm long-wool 9d§, crossbred 10Jd ha fbred merino 10gd, merino and halfbred 10* d, Martin, crossbred, lOd; Aex. Aitken, Kereone Estate, 104J; Woodward Bros., Mount Albert, Romney 10id; J. B. Starkey, Mornnsville crossbred 9d, three-quarterbred 10d,'and halfbred lOJd; Bailey, Clevedon, crossbred, fine Grey Bro. Waiheke, crossbred, fine lUd; E. Jones, halfbred, Waitoa, lO.td, and 9d for some crossbred. Messrs Dalgety and Co., in conjunction with the Farmers' Union, offered 1595 bales. The prices were in accordance with those ruling earlier in the day, and practically the lot was cleared. Some of the good prices realised were: —Thomas Edmonston, Waiheke, crossbred, lOJd; to lHd; Yates' Estate, halfbred ll 3 d; J. T. Bovds, Paparoa, crossbred, 10£ d, r. W G. Lavvson, Tuakau, crossbred, 101 d and 10Jd, G. Proud, Bombay, fine crossbred, 10id; Joseph Jay Okarare, crossbred, lOd, to 10Jd; and the following lots at lOd: A. Hoist, WoodiH, crossbred; McKinnon Bros., Ohinewai, halfbred.
