Pio Pio.

We have been having a great deal of rain lately. In fact, a downpour at times, and the roads in the district are at their best —as regards mud. Talking of roads I am pleased to hear that the settlers on the Mairoa road are going in for a loan to metal about three and a-half miles o£ their tfostcl. A menting was Thursday week to consider the proposal. Mr P. O'Dwyer, councillor for the riding, gave a lot of valuable information in reference to the proposal, and it was agreed to raise a loan. Messrs Livingstone and Johnaton were appointed to draw up the rating boundaries and act as delegates to wait on the county council. / Owing to the very wet night last Thursday week the bachelors had to postpone their ball until the next night. They .had a splendid night for it on the Friday, and it was a great success. About 30 couples were present, some of them travelling a good distance over very bad roads. Mr Slynes acted as M.C. and carried out his duties with a master hand, pleasing everyone. Dapping was kept up until a late hour. There is some talk of the married men going to go one better, but \ think it will take them all their time. If they give one as good they will do well. I hear that Mr Gee. McKay, accountant for Messrs Green and Colebrook, and late postmaster, has severed his connection with the firm of G. and C., and is starting in business as a commission agent at Pio Pio, The dairy factory is just about completed, and it looks a very nice building. I hear that the manager's name is Mr TuuniclifFe, that he takes the ribbons next month, and there is every prospect of the factory opening with a good list of suppliers. Several new suppliers are joining.
