HONIKIWI.

Own Correspondent. On Saturday night oar usual monthy social took place, but there was only a very small attendance, due, no doubt to the muddy state of the roads, and to the sickness of one of the Maori children. However, enough turned up to make a very pleasant evening. Dancing was kept up with spirit till midnight. Mr Harofd Budden contributed a song, and recitations were given by Miss C. Budden. and Messrs O'Donnell and Budden. Dance music was provided by Messrs Purohau and Harold Wee. General regret was expensed at the departure of Mr Quinn's popular manager, Mr George Forbes, for Australia.

Mr Grant, who recently bought out Mr A. E. Fears' section has t»fcen up his residence in a pioneering way until the return of fine weather enables him to get out timber for a permanent homestead; wbtch will be a welcome addition to the alt too few houses on the Tapujre Road. Mr Hargreaves has a fern and scrub mower at work on his section, which ia rapidty removing the appearance of neglect which it has presented for some time, owing to the long absence from the district of the former occupier. The sight of lambs in some of the paddocks is one of the signs of spring already here. It is a pity that the need for retrenchment has led to the discharge of ao many connected with the Roads Department before the Winter had come to a close.
