A resident of Taumarunui, holding an acre of land in the township undei lease-in-perpctuity, which carriescertain conditions regarding residence and improvements, went into business some two or three miles distant. This compelled him to be away from the section the greater portion of each week, but he rode on horseback to his home during the night and left early in the morning. His home stands in a very convenient locality, and many offers have been made him for the purchase of it, but he has declined to sell. At the last sitting oL.the Wellington Land Board, seven of his neighbours presented a petition, protesting against h:s non-residence. The holder of the section, it is stated, now proposes to take legal proceedings against het petitioners, charging them with having laid false information about him.
