TE KUITI LOAN.

A most important feature affecting the progress of Te Kuit.i which should not be lost sight of at the present timeis the loan for the purpose of carrying out town improvements. The necessary papers in connection with the lean were all forwarded to Wellington some time ago, and it is time definite news as to when the money will be available for expenditure was forthcoming. Toe much stress cannot be laid upon the necessity for starting the projected work at the earliest possible moment. The next few months comprise practically the working period of the year, and the whole of the work provided for should be completed within that period. Reasonably decent conditions throughout the succeeding winter can only thus be provided, and if any hitch occurs, the residents must prepare for even worse than a repitition of last winter. Thanks to the unrivalled situation and natural facilities for settlement which the township possesses, the progress of the place has hitherto not been seriously impeded, though it is common knowledge that the building trade and kindred industries have been somewhat, restricted in consequence ol the conditions which exist during the winter months. The town has now arrived at a stage when no influence should be allowed to interfere with its industrial activities. The first rush of settlement has been experienced, and progress on steady and sound lines must bo the policy of the future. Industries must be fostered and population encouraged by every legitimate means, and no effort must be spared to provide the first, essentials of settlement. The residents have signified their desire for better surroundings in no uncertain manner. It is to be hoped the County Council will take active steps to give effect to the project, and have the work put in hand forthwith.
