HONIKIWI.

(Own Correspondent.) The November social took place in the Schoolroom on the 7th instant. There was a fairly iarge attendance of the settlers and their friends, and a most enjoyable evening was spent, dancing being kept up till midnight. Mr George Forbes' graphophone rendered several acceptable items in the in tervals between the dances. The feature of the evening, however, was Mr A. Cook's character sketch of Professor Foolstaff, the World renowned Physician to the Emperor of China, the get up and acting being worthy of a far larger audience. His reading of the testimonials of several local people to the wonderful virtues of the medicines, convulsed everyone present with laughter. There is to be another dance on the sth of December. Mr Bowater, the Opposition candidate, passed through here on his way to Kawhia; owing to there being no telephone communication none of the settlers could be made aware of his coming in time to enable him to give an address. However, he saw a few of them and gave a little address to the school children. Mr Jennings has not yet favoured us with a visit, but in such a large electorate this not to be wondered at.
