The Waikato Show.

The annual show of the Waikr.to A. and P. Association was held at Ciaudelands, Hamilton, on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, when fresh records in the history of the Show were established, both as regards entries and attendance. The entry list was swelled to a total of 1752, compared with 1492 last year, and this fact indicates the increased interest which is being taken in the function by farmers. The total gate receipts amounted to £264 8s Gd, and of this amount more than £250 was taken on People's Day. SHEEP. There was a largely increased entry of sheep of all classes, and the opinion was expressed that the last eight years breeding in Waikato has advanced our sheep to an equal position with those of either Hawke's Bay, Palmcrston North or the South [sland. They are described by the judge as very fine indeed, especially the full-blooded English Leiccsters and Lincolns. Probably as a result of the harsh, cold windy weather, the wool was not as bright as would have been the case in ordinary times, and was if anything, somewhat, dry. Given more sun and no wind this defect soon disappears. Now that the Main Trunk line is open we may expect breeders to visit Waikato in larger numbers, and it is certain they will take some fine stud stock back with them. Altogether, the sheep shown at this year's show are in advance of anything hitherto seen in Waikato, and whether for wool or for mutton will be found equal to the best in the Dominion. CATTLE. There was again a record entry of all classes of cattle, and the general condition elicited the admiration of all competent to judge. In the dairy classes the strength was particularly noticeable, and Waikato has reason to be proud of the fine animals which are so successfully being bred in the district. The Pedigree Shorthorns were again strongly represented and Mr Wm. Taylor's cattle proved once more that they occupy the leading place in these classes. Fat cattle showed only a slight advance, in point of numbers, on last year's show-, but the general condition was equal if not superior to anything hitherto shown. HORSES. There was a very noticeable increase in almost all classes of entries, whether draughts, harness horses, or other sorts. Among the draughts the competition was perhaps not so keen, the entries being necessarily somewhat limited, but the condition was such that the judges had a hard task to distribute the awards between one and another. Among the harness horses the pairs were remarkably strong in the number of entries, and whether pony for horse classes, gained loud and unstinted praise for their general smartness and excellent action. There was a strong entry of trotting horses and again for the champion horse class. In cobs and ponies were some noticeably pretty animals, and the hack classes were particularly strong, - some really fine animals being seen amongst them. Championships. HORSES 7 Draught Entire: V.
