KAKAHI.

A smoke social was held hereon November 23rd, for the purpose of presenting the trophies w .n by the Kakahi Football Club during the past \ season. There was a very large attendance, fully sixty being present, and the arrangements * were complete in every particular. The pup which was donated by Mr A. Riches, of Woodville, is a very handsome trophy, &nd is to be held fts a challenge cup. Mr A. Brown, of Manunui, Secretary of the King Country Rugby Union made the presentation, and in a neat speech congratulated the Kakahi football team upon winning such a fine trophy. He hoped they would always play as they had done in the -past. The caps were presented to the victorous team by Mr Sollaway, who also complimented the team upon the 1 manner in which they had played the game. During the evening songs were contributed by Misses Reidy, Clarkin, Brennanand Mr Hodge, and some step dances by Mr T. Monnick were performed and thoroughly ffcpreciated. The usual toasts were and were drunk in bumpers dispersing just before after one ofthe most enjoys able evenings ever spent in the district. The Rifle Club is doing well, and some really good shooting is being J done by local nien. Tfie opening pele ; bti'tions were'hefd on Saturday, Kpi vember ibth, all the residents turning out to the picnic. A dance was held at night and was greatly enjoyed.
