BRIGADIER JAMES HARGEST KILLED IN ACTION.
WELLINGTON, August 18. The death of Brigadier James Har gest D. 5.0., and two Bars, M.C., C.8.E., Legion of Honour. M.P., was announced to a hushed House of Representatives bv the Prime Minister (the Hon. I Fraser) this afternoon. Brigadier Har gest killed by a <hell burst while a jeep in Normandy. I: dland) briefly expressed their deep personal sorrow and Mr Holland said Brigadier Hargest’s death had shocked he House as nothing else could have -one at this time. Eight numbers of House of Representatives have red overseas and Brigadier Hargest is the fifth to lose his life. The other ;l:rec have returned to New Zealand. One of Brigadier Hargest’s sons was killed in action at Casting recently.
