Every time the Allies make a landing on enemy soil, the troops, even the Commando men, marvel at a handful or men who go ashore with them. They are the F.O.O.s. (Forward Observation Officers) and their job is to give directions for getting the Navy’s supporting fire as quickly as possible after the assault landing. The F.O.Os. are attached to Combined Operations and are specially selected. They hold at least the rank of Captain. F.O.O5, coming ashore under shell fire, during their training.
