RUSSIANS MASSING
FOR BIG DRIVE ON EAST PRUSSIA. LONDON, August 4. About 120 miles south of Warsaw the Russians have forced the "V istula River and have established a bridgehead on the west bank nearly 20 miles wide and 15 miles .u-ep. The Pue-. -ns apparently now have three brilgeheads across the Vistula. The first is south of Warsaw, the second at DebJin, and the third at Barow, where the Vistula and San rivers meet. There is no official confirnyation of an earlier report that Soviet troops have crossed the frontier into East Prussia, but lighting is taking place near the border. More progress has been made on the Baltic sector and the Russians, have cut all communication between j the German in the Baltic States and East Prussia. A Stockholm report says that German warships have been sighted oil the Aaland Islands, of Finland, indicating that the enemy may be attempting to evacuate troops by sea. The battle for Warsaw is continuing i nabated and no big changes arc reported. Polish underground forces are stated to be engaging the enenyy within the city, but Marshal Rokossovsky’s troops are still fighting in the suburbs at distances of from 5 to 10 miles from the city proper. August 5. The Russian troops are massing for a big attack on East Prussia.
