Approximately 558,000 women and girls and 60,000 youths between the ages of 16 and 20 are required to register under the provisions of the Social Security Act. Official returns of the registrations last month, the period specified for the purpose, will not be available for some time, but inquiries made rn official circles show that very few indeed of those required to register have not met the obligation. A New Plymouth telegram on May 3 states: “It is hoped to commence the operation of the maternity benefits from May 10, as already announced,” said he Minister for Health (the Hon. P. Fraser) in reply to a question at Now Plymouth to-night. Mr Fraser said that he was not prepared to comment then on the statement made by Dr Jamieson that night, but he would give a considered reply later. The Director of the Dairy Produce Export Division of the Primary Products Marketing Department (Mr G. A. Duncan) left Wellington on Saturday by the Rangitane, for London on the business of the department. The Acting-Minister for Marketing (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) said Mr Duncan would also confer with the London manager of the dairy sales division of the department (Mr H. E. Davis) on the marketing of dairy products.
