SCHOOL CONCERT

SUBURBAN CHILDREN. The Suburban Hall was a scene of enthusiasm and excitement on Friday night, on the occasion of the concert given by the children of the Suburban School—the performers keen to play their parts, their schoolmates eager to give hearty applause, which they subsequently did, and the parents full of anxiety as to how their little ones would acquit themselves. The children performing did not let their teachers and parents down, they gave an excellent performance ‘pleasing to al] present, and everybody had a happy time. The teaching staff—Mr P. R-. McLoughlin and Miss Farirah—are worthy of all praise for the manner in which the concert was organised and carried out. Miss Farrah was the accompaniste and Mr J. D. Boyd (chairman of the School Committee) pres ided At the conclusion of the concert Mr Boyd thanked the children for an enjoyable concert, the school teachers for training the children, and those present for their generous support. The programme was as follows: — “God Defend New Zealand,” by the children; piant-oforte duet by Anne and Jane Boyfl; sketch, “Pulling a Tooth,” by the senior boys and girls; songs, ‘ ‘ Fair Shin es the Moon To-night, ’ ’ “Where’er You Walk,” “Where the Bee Sucks,* 1 and “Drink to Me Only,” by the seniors; playette, “Crying for the- Moon,” by the juniors; pianoforte solo by Genie Schroder; sketch, “Four Niggers Go Shopping,” by the senior boys; songs by juniors, “Eight Little Mothers,” and “Bed in Summer”; vocal duet, “Strawberry Fair/’ by Genie Schroder and Ailsa Lawson; mouth organ solos, Melba Boyd, who had to respond to hearty applause; songs, “Widdicombe Fair” and “Mine Own Countree,” by the seniors; dances by the juniors; chorus by the junior boys, “Ten Little Pixies”; sketch, li A Disturbance in the Family”; action song by juniors, “’The Dream Man”; pianoforte duet by Jean and Mavis McLeod; Maori son gs. “Pokare Kare Ana,” “Canoe Soing,” au.d ‘‘E Pari Ra,” by the seniors ;.
