TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. The flaming romance of a lovely fugifleeing from strife-torn Spain, “Wings of the Alorning, ” Twentieth Century-Fox release opening on Tuesday at the Afayfair Theatre, introduces a nexv and exciting screen personality, in Annabella, starred with Henry Fonda and Leslie Banks in the film, which presents the world-famous tenor. John AlcCormack. Brought to the screen in all the lifelike beauty of natural Technicolor. “Wings of the Alorning” provides a thrilling mixture of drama, spectacle and surprise, including the spectacular changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, home of English Kings, and tin l most sensational Derby ever run, with jockey Steve Djnoghue riding his most thrilling race. Breathtaking in its sweeping drama, the film acquires a new beauty and dimension through its natural, perfected Technicolor, so lifelike and beautiful that you’ll think you’ve never seen color on the screen before. Annabella, a brilliant new star as different and alluring as her unusual name, first appears in the prologue, as Marie, a gypsy princess. She marries Leslie Banks, the Earl of Clontarf, who dies on the hunting field five months later. Marie goes back to her gypsies to be told that her descendants will be cursed for her marriage for three generations. Alodern times bring us Annabella as Alarie, the great-granddaughter fleeing from Spain in the midst of revolution to a quieter Ireland, where she can have her horse “Wings of the Morning” trained for the English Derby. Victory in that xvould provide her xvith a doxvry to marry her Spanish fiance. Kerrx r Gilfallen, a young Irish trainer, played by Henry Fonda, also has a Derby candidate but he falls in love with Alarie and agrees to train “Wings” for the big race, and gives a party for Alarie at which John AlcCormack sings. When her jockey breaks his leg Kerry even arranges for his own jockey, Steve Donoghue, to ride Marie’s horse, although he knows that victory for Marie may mean defeat not only for his oxvn horse but also for his love for Mario. Derby Day brings not only the most sensational Derby ever run, but the. harrowing realisation that the curse of the gypsies may still have a last paralysing influence on the lives of those involved. A surprising conclusion in which Marie’s grandmother makes her last earthly gesture, paves the way for the happiness of Alarie and Kerry. Also featured in the cast are Stexvart Rome, Harrv Tate and Irene Vanbrugh. Harold Schuster directed the film which is based on stories by Donn Byrne. The Twentieth Century-Fox release was produced by Robert T. Kane.
