A SAD TRAGEDY

Mr Thomas Newburgh, of the firm of Thomas Newburgh end Co., Mayor of Sumner, and a member of the Chi Istchurch Stock Exchange, was found dead in. his motor-car in a quarry on the road between Marble Point and Hamner Springs, about noon on Tuesday. A length of tubing led from the exhaust pipe into the car through a rear window. The body was taken to the Culverden Hotel, and an inque-t was opened later by Mr H. A. Young. Coroner. Evidence of identification was given by a son, Ralph Leslie Newburgh, and the inquest was adjourned sine -tie, to be concluded in Christchurch. Mr Newburgh was born in Christchurch in 1882. He was educated at the Sydenham School and was recently a prominent member of the School D a mond Jubilee Committee. ' Mr Newburgh’s firm, are auditors to the Kaikoura Dairy Company.
