KAIKOURA CLUB. Playing in the semi-finals in the singles competition J. C. Smith, 19. won from TV. A’aughan, 17. G. Collins is to meet J. C. Smith in the final. In the semi-final of the pairs competition B. Dooley and F. Smith 23, defeated G. Collins and W. T’aughan 13. The winners plav in the final against A. Trudgian and A. Stewart. Other games played during the weekend were:— Corney, A’aughan and Raymond Gibson 14, lost to Trumper. Harris and Hayward, 19. ATcLoughlin, Afiller and Washington 21, defeated Gordon, Reid and Galliardy Collins, Warner, F. Clark -m.l Alain 13, lost to Baines, Doolev Baker and St raid 21. Bevis and J. C. Smith 15, Jost to Stewart and Trudgian 23. AVarner and Baines 39. defeated Clark and Howard 8. Harris and Hayward 25 , defeated Trudgian and TVashington 17. Oldest Member Entertained. During the afternoon tea interval on Saturdav afternoon about thirty members of the club assembled at the Takahanga pavilion to celebrate the 82nd anniversary of Air J. Washington’s birthday. Following the loyal toast Air Allan Howard, president of the club, said members had assembled to congratulate one of the inception members <>n attaining his 82nd birthday. Mr Washington,” said the speaker. Hliad been one of the original members, and was one of the best players on the green.’’ He asked members to charge! their glasses and drink to the health of their guest. Mr Howard also referred to the- splendid services rendered by Airs AVashington in all matters pertain ing to the welfare of the distr.cL Air J. D. Davidson endorsed the remarks of Air Howard, and paid a tribute to rhe line sporting spirit of thiir guest in the matter o. e bowls, billiards, and other sports. Air Washington expressed thanks for the nice remarks passed concerning Mrs TVashington and himself, and hoped that members would long live to enjov the game of howls. He appreciated very much the kindness of those who had organised the function. Air Howard also thanked the ladies for arranging the afternoon tea.
