In the House of Lords Viscount Elibank asked whether the Government was aware that great confusion and serious inconvenience were caused to many peers and others because of a breakdown in motor-car arrangements after the Coronation service in the Abbey, and also who was responsible for this lack of organisation, and what steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence of such deplorable conditions. The question led to a general debate, in which it was agreed that the arrangements were imperfect but forgiveable. Lord Strabolgi said: "I have serious complaint about the car arrangements, but somebody’s head should be had over the disgraceful * catering arrangements for the House of Lords. We paid a high price and the arrangements were miserable.” The Marquess of Dufferin and Ava said: "I agree that there was grave confusion, but the car problem at the Abbey was by no means the only one confronting the police on Coronation Day. I think it was the only problem with which they were unable to cope satisfactorily. ’ ’
