An outstanding passenger by the service car to Kaikoura was a pedigree milking Shorthorn calf, from the 4‘Hazel mere* * herd of Mr N. Paton, of Springlands, consigned to Mr J. W. Aroa, of Kaikoura. This calf, which is only a week or two old, is by Willowbanks Oakberry from Hazelmerc Dolly. Willowbanks Oakberry is from Acorn of Oakdale (imported), whilst his dam Willowbanks Strawberry, has a S.O. re cord of 11,4481bs milk and 4861bs butterfat. The calf’s dam, Hazelmerc Dolh came from the herd of Ranstead Bros., Matangi, Waikato, and is out of Matangi Dolly, whilst her sire, Dominion Esau, is the outstanding bull of the breed in the Dominion, being the sire of live of the class leaders in butterfat records. Thus the dam of this calf is half-sister to Matangi Quality IV., who holds the world’s record of any breed as a four-year-old, the S.O. test of figures being 22,010.51bs milk ami 9/8.47 lbs butterfat. Mr Aroa is to be com mended upon his enterprise in securing such a valuable bull for his stud.
